There are two open positions for Application/Internet developers, Database developers, and Database administrators. 

As one of the top 100 research libraries in the world,
the UCSD Libraries are developing the in-house talent to design and build tomorrow's digital library. The Software Engineering Department, which manages the main UCSD website as well as the library web infrastructure, has several exciting and challenging new positions opening up on our development team. Current projects include completing the migration from static websites
to dynamic, data-driven websites; building a robust and fault tolerant server infrastructure using clustering and Java server environments; managing and subsetting large datasets; and integrating usability testing into an iterative development cycle. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants will be selected in order to build the strongest team. Must have excellent written and oral
communications skills, and should have one or more of the following individual skills:
                    
Demonstrated ability to write, debug and fix program code, write documentation, design and layout web graphics and interfaces. Skill and production experience in Java, Perl/ModPerl, JavaScript, C++, Tcl, PHP and/or other CGI or object-oriented languages in conjuntion with databases such as Sybase, Oracle or MS SQL to generate dynamic web content. 

Experience with relational database design and/or administration. Knowledge of SQL, relevant operating system commands, database conventions (storage profiles, data types, etc.) and tools. Knowledge and experience in database system administration tasks. Preferably, advanced knowledge of key databases and operating environments such as Sybase and Oracle, and related applications development environments. 

Experience with digital library projects, issues and technologies, including XML, SGML and metadata. 

Experience with dataset administration and statistical analysis software. 

Software engineering experience including software testing and integration, version control systems and development/distribution methodologies. 

Project management skills for software projects.

Preferred:
BS degree in a technical or scientific discipline (computer science, engineering, math or physics) or comparable combination of education and experience. 

Flexibility to function effectively in an environment that has rapidly shifting and often contradictory demands and priorities.

Ability to work in a team environment. Library experience a plus. 

The UCSD Libraries offer technical staff a relaxed,
