[WEB4LIB] managing websites and maintaining standards

For once I sent out a "reply" when I really meant to "reply-all"... getting
used to new defaults! I intended to send this to the list and instead sent
it to one of the responders to the original post... sorry.

Just a suggestion, aside from being really clear about acceptable formats,
if "They" insist on making front page the standard in your institution, you
might see if "They" will also pop for a copy of Dreamweaver for you. It
does a pretty nice job of cleaning up FP messes. Not perfect, but I've done
it here, and it works decently well. That way others can write their pages
and have them near-ready for the web, and you can make sure the code's not
totally bloated etc. It seems to be a nice compromise.

Are you empowered to send around a list of acceptable formats? There are
issues
with receiving materials from the unwashed masses in *any* format--but the
fewer
you have to deal with, the less hassle. (PowerPoint...ick.)

I'll leave the FrontPage issues to someone else. My policy on FrontPage is
to
avoid it at all costs. I've had to clean up after too many FrontPage-created

messes in the past.
