Oups! I wasn't understanding indeed. Sorry.  My "babylon translator" did
translate macron by "accent grave" in French. 

Anyway, I tried the suggestions :

and it works !
even without specifying the charset. The numeric entity reference seems to
be sufficient if you have recent fonts (I think it's called pan-european
support)
It works in Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 6 (but not in Netscape 4.7,
Opera 4.1 or Amaya)
