Technical Processing Supervisor

MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking an individual to provide
enhanced and customized access to internal and external
electronic information. As a member of the Library &
Information Services Department, the successful candidate
will supervise the Technical Processing Department
(consisting of three employees) and will work with a team of
information professionals providing services to the
Laboratory's 2200+ employees, including its 700+ scientists
and engineers.  Primary responsibilities will include:

-- Supervise the cataloging and processing of all materials,
i.e., book, journals, maps, and Laboratory reports, using
the OCLC and SIRSI computer systems
-- Supervise all acquisitions of books and journals
-- Develop and maintain effective vendor relations
-- Manage licensing of electronic journals and databases
-- Maintain map collection and provide map reference service

-- Investigate and implement the latest technologies that
support access to electronic information, including use of
Laboratory-wide controlled vocabulary and metadata
-- Provide reference service (part-time)

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 5 years or more in a scientific or technical
library. Supervisory experience in acquisitions, cataloging
and journal management required

Skills:
Working knowledge of OCLC system, national cataloging
standards, and issues and trends in technical services,
automation and cataloging electronic content.
Experience with an integrated library system, preferably
Sirsi, and with journal management systems. Ability to
communicate clearly and effectively. Strong supervisory
skills.  Familiarity with map types and map scales,
knowledge of GIS (desired)

Education:  ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science,
undergraduate degree in the physical sciences or engineering
preferred.
