Job Description
Editor of Telecommunications Electronic Reviews (TER)
Responsibilities:
* Oversee all aspects of the production of TER, including content,
form, design, marketing, and publication and distribution
* Chair the TER Editorial Board which meets in-person twice a year
and conducts business through email
* Develop new directions for the publication
* Publicize and market TER within and outside LITA
* Maintain sufficient numbers of reviews and commentary to publish
monthly issues on average
* Attend ALA Midwinter and Annual meetings
* Coordinate the activities of the Production Editor, Publisher/
Creator Relations Editor, Reviewer Relations Editor, and Index
Editors
* Provide ongoing monitoring of the publication
* Make new appointments to the Editorial Board as needed (maximum
of two, two-year terms) and report them to the LITA Office
Qualifications:
* A record of publications
* At least one year of previous editing experience with professional/
scholarly material
* LITA member (can join if not already a member)
* Familiarity with LITA structure, IGs, and programs
* Familiarity with telecommunications, networking, and current Web
technologies
Reports to:
* LITA Publications Committee
* Provides reports twice annually for LITA Publications Committee and
LITA Board
* Serve as ex-officio member of LITA Publications Committee
* Serve as or designate ex-officio member for other LITA Editorial Boards
Term:
* Three years (renewable once)
Compensation:
* $1,500 annual stipend or travel expenses up to $1,500
* Complimentary registration to Midwinter and Annual American Library
Association meetings
TER Information:
Telecommunications Electronic Reviews (TER) (http://www.lita.org/ter/) is
an irregular (6-12 issues per year) electronic serial publication of the
Library and Information Technology Association, a division of the American
Library Association. The primary function of TER is to provide reviews of
and pointers to telecommunications and networking resources, both print and
electronic. Resources include books, articles, serials, discussion lists,
software, software sites, training materials, bibliographies, and other
items of interest to professionals dealing with networking and
telecommunications,
primarily related to libraries and information centers. The topics covered
may
include, but are not limited to, specific telecommunications and networking
technologies; hardware and software; network operating systems; network
applications; management tools and utilities; technical management issues;
training and personnel issues; organizational, regional, and national
networking;
library perspectives; and research and development. Commentary and brief
topical
essays are published as well.
