Programs Announced for the 2000 LITA National Forum

What has more than 30 programs and two in-depth workshops on the latest
information technologies and their impact on users, libraries and the
profession? It's the 2000 LITA National Forum which will be held November
2-5, 2000 at the DoubleTree Hotel-Lloyd Center in Portland, Oregon.

"High Tech/High Touch: The Human Aspects of Technology" is the theme for
the third annual LITA National Forum.

Three thought-provoking general sessions anchor the event. Michael
Gorman, Dean of Library Services at California State University, Fresno
and current LITA President, will speak on human values in a technological
age. Doreen Carvajal, well-known writer for the New York Times, will
examine the topic of the impact of e-books. The closing session features
Anne Marie Gold, Executive Director of Stanford-California State Library
Institute on 21st Century Librarianship, speaking on the role of libraries
and librarians in a constantly morphing world of networked information.

More than 25 concurrent sessions provide a wealth of practical
information. Topics include assistive technology, bridging the gap
between human language and metadata, the digital divide and broadband
telecommunications, wireless LANs, online instruction, usability, the
Internet and privacy, web accessible databases, verbots, intellectual
freedom and technology, XHTML and much more.

Add to the Forum experience with a choice of two preconference workshops,
a full day on "Proxy Web Servers and Authentication," or a half day on
"Technologies for Bibliographic Instruction Innovations and Best
Practices."

Corporate sponsors of the LITA Forum help to bring the programming and
networking opportunities to you. We gratefully acknowledge the support of
epixtech, SilverPlatter Information, Data Research Associates (DRA) and Ex
Libris.

Beautifully refurbished and widely recognized as a leader in technology
among public libraries, Multnomah County Central Library is the site of
the Forum reception, sponsored by epixtech, on Friday evening. Other
networking opportunities include Saturday lunch, continental breakfasts
and refreshment breaks, not to mention the no-host dinner groups that will
be organized.

Registration opens August 2000 and will be limited to 350. For details,
