excel to access

Forgive me for what is probably a very basic question not directly dealing with websites but I believe this list can help me.  If you have a periodicals title/holdings list in excel, how can you transfer that to an access database?  Do you need to create an access database first that has similar fields?  I appreciate your input.  thanks.
