Librarian, Digital Library Initiatives Group
Position Summary:
This position offers an exciting opportunity for involvement in innovative
digital library projects. The Digital Library Initiatives Group (DLIG) is
the Library's primary planning body for digital projects. The DLIG is
charged with providing leadership in the selection, budgeting, and
implementation of major digitization initiatives, establishing evaluative
criteria from which priorities may be determined, policies developed, and
performance measures specified, and with establishing the technical
architecture supporting the Library's transition to digital services. The
DLIG also leads efforts to help Library staff develop a deep understanding
of the vision and their role in it.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and support in the creation, ongoing development, and
enhancement of digital library projects.
Establishes relationships with faculty, researchers, scholarly
organizations, and others with whom the Library may partner.
Works with library staff, campus partners, and customers to design new
products based on end-user needs.
Participates in related library-wide projects as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library/Information Science, Management Information
Systems, or other relevant field. Please note that only applicants with an
MLS degree can be offered a continuing-eligible position (other selected
candidates will be on year to year contracts).
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to be flexible, open-minded, and comfortable with defining a new
position as new and
additional needs become known.
Evidence of leadership skills or strong potential for developing leadership
skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse people and serve a diverse
population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Exposure to metadata standards and practices, and to markup languages as
related to digital resources.
Working knowledge of current Web authoring applications.
Working knowledge of UNIX and Windows NT operating systems.
Familiarity with digital libraries.
Familiarity with open source applications and community values.
Ability and desire to work in a team based environment.
