Education Programs Information Professional

San Diego State University Library and Information Access is seeking an 
energetic and highly motivated information professional to design and 
develop a unique collection of information resources in support of the 
National Center for the 21st Century Schoolhouse. The Center is a 
partnership between San Diego State University College of Education and the 
America's Schoolhouse Council, a consortium of prestigious architectural 
firms specializing in design of educational
facilities.

The National Center for the 21st Century Schoolhouse at San Diego State 
University will serve as a key resource for the design and maintenance of 
schools that reflect best practices in education and educational reform. 
Specific functions of the Center include: maintaining a national database 
of accurate planning, construction, and regulatory data; conducting 
research on the types of facilities needed in relation to the curriculum; 
training educators and facility architects and planners on use of the 
research in their long-term strategic planning; promoting productive 
interrelationships; and facilitating a "think tank" that will have the 
expertise to influence state and federal policy on school facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Education Programs Information Professional reports to the Dean, 
Library and Information Access. This is a full-time,three-year appointment. 
Responsibilities include collection development in the areas of planning, 
marketing, design,construction/renovation of educational facilities, and 
other areas of education as assigned; developing and implementing library 
services and programs in collaboration with the National Center and the 
College of Education; providing library support services; serving as the 
library liaison to the National Center and the College of Education; 
providing library instruction in the areas of planning, marketing, design, 
and construction/renovation of educational facilities; and assisting with 
the development of new and innovative courses, programs, and events in 
relation to the College of Education's work. The position offers a unique 
opportunity to advance services and to develop print and digital 
collections in these subjects.

The initial focus of the position will be on establishing the content and 
developing and maintaining the National Center for the 21st Century 
Schoolhouse's web site; assisting users with accessing, creating, and using 
its resources; and collaborating with other members of the National Center 
on research activities and identification and/or design of curricular and 
research material. It is anticipated that the position will evolve and will 
eventually provide the full range of library services to the College of 
Education, including planning and implementing digital library projects in 
collaboration with faculty in the College of Education.

Required Qualifications:
ALA-accredited degree (or equivalent foreign degree) and a minimum 3 years 
post-degree experience working within a computer intensive environment in a 
library setting;
Commitment to improve access to information resources and services for 
distributed learners through the use of information technology;
Knowledge of models and trends in distance education services;
Excellent interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills;
Ability to work effectively in team environment and diverse community;
Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical users;
Knowledge of principles of providing outstanding customer service;
Relevant library collection development experience or training;
Demonstrated ability to plan, design, implement, and evaluate library 
service programs, and new services; and
Experience with Web development and implementation, authoring languages, 
instructional design, and multimedia.

Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of subject expertise in one or more of the following fields: 
architecture, urban design, city planning, or construction;
Degree in Education or comparable experience in a school setting;
Grant writing experience;
Experience serving the needs of adult and distance learners;
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of hardware and software 
utilized in electronic text and imaging work; and
Experience with and an understanding of online, multi-media databases.

This is a full-time, three-year appointment. Rank of Senior Assistant 
Librarian, starting salary range: $46,488-$58,740 or Associate Librarian, 
starting salary range: $53,460-$74,352. Excellent benefits package, 
including 24 days annual vacation.
