IE 5.5 and fonts

Digging further into the pages I found the following define style:

INPUT {font-family: serif; font-weight: bold; font-size: 12pt;}

I found that if I checked "Ignore font styles specified on web pages" under
"Tools - Internet Options - General - Accessability", the text displayed
properly. So, I'm guessing the problem is with which font it is selecting for
the "generic" serif style. Where does IE define this? Looking under "Fonts"
in the same panel, I have "Times New Roman" and "Courier New" as the
defaults. Is this what IE is using?
