   Featuring a number of  main articles on key developments and issues  in
UK digital library networking, plus two articles from the US:

      *Scientific, Industrial, and Cultural Heritage: A Shared Approach:
Lorcan Dempsey (Director of UKOLN) presents a research framework for
libraries, archives and museums, in a document originally prepared for the
European Commission.

     *Alistair Dunning reviews the launch of the 'Resource Discovery
Network' in November 1999 in London.

Two articles on CLUMPS issues:

     *Clumps as Catalogues: Peter Stubley asks: 'virtual success or
failure?'; and:
     *Clumping towards a UK National Catalogue?: Dennis Nicholson argues in
favour of the distributed approach to cataloguing.

*Digitization issues are considered in: 'Digitizing Intellectual Property:
the Oxford Scoping Study',  by  Dr. Stuart Lee.

    * A US perspective on 'Public Libraries and Community Networks' is
offered by Malabika Das.

     *A report on a conference held recently in Chicago:  'Electronic
Publication of Ancient Near Eastern Texts' by Charles E. Jones and David
Schloen ( XML tagging for Ancient Near Eastern Texts on the Web).




In addition:
     *Tiny TV: streaming video on the web: Philip Hunter uses  RealPlayer
and MediaPlayer  to map live and on-demand video streams currently
available.
     *The ResIDe Electronic Library: an evolving library service: Christine
Dugdale looks at the progress of this project to a functional service.
     *Aerade: John Harrington, Karyn Meaden and Emma Turner introduce this
EEVL-related service (Edinburgh Engineering Virtual Library).
     *A free ISP from the British Library: Brian Kefford outlines the
services available.


Two articles look at Ariadne  itself in this issue:
     *'Delivering the Electronic Library' -  John MacColl on the new ARIADNE
reader: a paper publication distributed to Libraries in UK Higher Education,
which collects together some of the best and most interesting articles from
the first three years of Ariadne's existence.
     *Philip Hunter surveys Ariadne's web accesses for the past year in the
editorial for this issue, (and also previews the 'Distributed National
Electronic Resource.)'
