In working on the Hardin Meta Directory (whose purpose is to list the best
directory sites in health and medicine), we've discovered an interesting
phenomenon - Google can be used as a gateway to high-quality,
subject-specific directory sites. Because directory sites are valuable
starting points in net searching, people make links to them frequently.
Google is able to take advantage of this accumulated human-smartness, and
directory sites come to the top in Google searches.
