Libraries and eBay

Colleagues,
 
this may not be the right forum, but I'd be really interested in hearing
from other libraries if policies have been laid down to place bids on Ebay 
for relevant (and sometimes unique) items. 
 
UW - Madison libraries are discussing this issue right now, and the 
general understanding is to give the green light to bibliographers for 
bidding (within a responsible framework and limits), but not for acting 
as a seller, as could be envisioned with some specific, collectable 
duplicates.
