Library website insert sale advice sought
Greetings,
David Novak of the Spire Project. Seeking advice on if/how libraries would
buy website inserts linking to internet research.
One of the difficulties in developing a fine library website is a
realistic way to link to outside resources which shift and change. The
Spire Project already has this kind of information prepared with forms and
deep-links. Is it possible to slice & dice the Spire Project, then insert
form and deep-link data into library websites? Is this a viable market?
Superficially, at least, building a website insert could make for better
web assistance at a lower price - maybe. I am describing a collection of
web data with the forms and deep-links to library-grade information meta-
tools. Resources like the UN press release database, country profiles,
online books... There are ways to more closely tie this information
together and to a website: steps beyond just a link.
I am very interested in your opinion on whether it could be possible to
create and sell to libraries a package for inserting into libraries.
?) Could a project meet the needs of a number of libraries?
?) Could a subscription structure work?
?) Would libraries see in this a short-term or long-term value?
If possible, it would open an environment where experts beyond the library
field could assist the public through the library system. In an era where
technology will begin to remove information from the library, I wonder if
this is a viable way to bring information back?
Thoughts please to Web4Lib and david at spireproject.com
