What a great idea!  Having a .library or .lib Top Level Domain makes a lot of sense, as long as only libraries can use it.  I personally would prefer
.lib which would be a little more international than .library ...

I checked out the original information from ICANN on this:
http://www.icann.org/tlds/tld-application-process.htm

and it indicates that ICANN will be accepting applications from organizations willing to oversee the distribution of domain names within the new Top
Level Domains.  Here's the catches:

1)    Finding an organization to administer the .lib domain names, meaning accept applications from those who want such a domain name and assign
them, and keep track of who has what.
2)    An initial application fee of $50,000 from that organization to cover ICANN's expenses in setting up the top level domain.
3)    The deadline for all this is between 5 September and 2 October 2000.

So, who could take this on?  ALA?  IFLA?  Just tell me who to call or email...
