Technology Planning in a Time of Rapid Change, October 12-13, 2000
Brookfield, Wisconsin
David Penniman leads this 1.5 day forum for leaders of both public and
academic libraries. This seminar offers an overview of technology trends,
and allows participants to investigate the implications of these trends for
the allocation of library resources in a collegial atmosphere. Structured
planning sessions and case studies help participants relate this information

Knowledge Access on the Web: Metadata Applications, October 26-27, 2000
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
This 1.75 day seminar is designed for Heads of cataloging, chief
catalogers, cataloging team leaders, digital cataloging principals, special
format catalogers, electronic resource librarians, digital librarians,
metadata librarians, Internet resource librarians, systems librarians,
Webmasters, records managers, knowledge managers. It provides an overview
of Web-based resource descripton systems and detailed instruction in the
Dublin Core metadata. As a member of a small project team, participans
design and implement a MARC-or webserver based resource description system
for a real-world collection. Where feasible, projects are real-life
projects submitted in advance by participants. Participants evaluate the
resource description system in terms of design and functionality, including
data input, storage, retrieval and display.
