I saw a reference to the following item on another library related list.....

The University of Arizona, Carnegie Mellon, OCLC,  the University of Hawaii,
Oregon State University, and the University of Texas, have put together an
NSF proposal to provide a "24x7" librarian-staffed science chat room for
undergraduates.
