I'm sure many of you are familiar with the debates about the evolution of
LIS education from "library schools" to "schools of information science." As
more and more information resources have become available electronically,
especially via the Web, "library school" curricula have been evolving away
from cranking out librarians and more toward preparing people for positions
like Webmasters, information architects, etc.

There are some who see this evolution as a natural extension of librarians'
mission to organize information, while there are others who see this
evolution as shortchanging libraries.

Anyway, there is an interesting article in the new issue of the Chronicle of
Higher Education. There's also a link to an online discussion of the topic.
