Spyware on computers

I have been following with great interest the debate about freeware programs
paid for by advertising. Many of these programs use a service called
Radiate that tracks how you respond to these adds and may track your surfing
habits without your knowledge.
After following recommendations from various sites, I found that my laptop
is now behaving better because Radiate's software is no longer operating in
the background. This may not relate directly to libraries but certainly
will relate to staff workstations where someone used such software as
