Collection Development-
Internet Resources for Electronic Libraries
Instructor: Diane Kovacs
Date: 4/26/00
Time: 9:30 AM-4:00 PM
Location: OHIONET
Description:
Let's apply trusted collection development strategies to our emerging
virtual libraries! In this workshop you will learn how to plan, collect and
select Web-based information resources for
e-library collections. The activities will step us through the collection
development process, starting with how to create a collection plan and a
collection strategy, how to use the collecting tools (search engines,
directories, other people's e-libraries), and then how to evaluate the
resources located and collected, and finally selecting which resources will
be included in your e-library. You may choose your favorite type of subject
e-library for workshop practice activities.
Diane Kovacs, author of the recently published "Building Electronic Library
Collections: the Essential Guide to Selection Criteria and Core
Collections," will provide practical guidance in developing our new virtual
libraries.
Who should attend: Librarians who want to learn to more efficiently collect
and organize information resources from the Web for use in e-library
collections of all sizes.
Prerequisite: Experience using web browsers such as Netscape. Some
experience creating a web site may be helpful
Member cost: $85 (INFOhio members must pre-pay)
Non-Members: $115 (non members must pre-pay)
