Eligible on-campus applicants in CSEA Bargaining Units 2, 5, 7, and 9 will
be given first consideration in this
recruitment.
This is a probationary-track position which may become permanent upon
successful completion of a probationary
period.
HOURS: MONDAY - FRIDAY, 8:00A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
SALARY: $2,816.00 - $3,942.00 PER MONTH
The salary ranges which appear in this document indicate the recruitment
range for each position. Potential earnings can
reach an additional 10% above the maximum rate shown, based on performance
increases received during employment.
This position is covered by health benefits, and is non-exempt (eligible
for overtime compensation) according to the Fair
Labor Standards Act.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: To enter this classification, a basic foundation of
knowledge and skills in technical
information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite.
This foundation would normally be obtained
through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems,
educational technology, communications, or related
fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study.
Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information
Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment,
may include working knowledge of common
software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database
systems and sources, and training methods and a
basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia
systems. Further progress within this classification is
based on department need and work assignments requiring higher levels of
skill and knowledge.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to conduct user needs analysis,
conceptualize problems and solutions and
make sound recommendations for systems development. Ability to write
programs with HTML and related programming
tools. Ability to implement and test new software applications
successfully; write code in HTML, JAVA, JAVA Script, Perl
Script, Visual Basic or CGI; and to engage in continuous learning of new
software products or features. Ability to
communicate effectively with user community and knowledge of UNIX, MS-DOS,
Windows, Novell, NT, client/server
design, computer, computer peripherals, and interfaces. Effective
interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team environment,
ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to
program using common programming languages.
Thorough knowledge of PC hardware, software, and LAN configuration.
Knowledge of basic personal computer software,
including MS-Word, Excel, WordPerfect, Netscape, etc. Knowledge of INNOPAC
system preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work closely with Library faculty and staff in designing Library
WebPages to display content which they define.
Coordinate, revise, maintain and update the Library Homepages. Provide
appropriate and up-to-date links between the
main Library Homepage and other departmental web pages.
Design web pages for Library Webpac to enhance and facilitate use of
Library resources on the Internet.
Design, maintain and update the Library Information Systems homepage
including Frequently Asked Questions page.
Assist Library employees to develop departmental homepages for specific
subjects.
Provide technical support in using HTML (including telephone support in
using FrontPage and Claris Homepage)
Install, configure, monitor and troubleshoot the Archives Web Server.
Perform backup of the Library Homepage.
Develop, implement and maintain programs to capture Webpage and
database usage statistics.
Design and maintain database to track library computer equipment;
ensure that data sources are accurate and readily
accessible.
Provides consultative support to Systems staff or other library
employees in developing application databases (data
structure/policy, relationships and structural constrains.)
Installs, configure, monitor and troubleshoot hardware and applications
software (including operating systems) in
public and staff services areas of Library. Perform computer and
printer repairs or replacements as appropriate.
Provide technical support for staff and faculty in their use of the
University Information Systems applications and of the
network and stand-alone automated systems including, but not limited to
Pegasus, MS Word, Netscape, Internet
Explorer, War-FTP server, MS PowerPoint, HTML, and INMAGIC text database.
Perform data conversion of files from obsolete applications programs,
to programs supported by UCCS and/or Library
Information Systems.
