Keynote speakers:

Electronic identifiers are of increasing importance in the management of
digital objects, both on and off the Internet, and affect services such as
library operations, copyright privileges, item tracking, discovery and
linking, commercial transactions, and archiving. This workshop will
include theoretical, practical and descriptive information on many of the
high profile identifiers that are now in use or under development, such as
the Digital Object Identifier System (DOI) and CNRI's Handle System on
which it is based, the International Standard Work Number (ISWN), and the
Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) concept. Applications, representative
problems and complications surrounding their development and
implementation, and examples of their use and management, will all be
presented.
This workshop is aimed at all levels of library staff that will be
affected, from public services and bibliographers, to technical services.
Scheduled speakers include:
William Arms, Vice President, Corporation for National
Research Initiatives (CNRI)
Helen Barsky Atkins, Director of Database Development,
Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)
Leslie L. Daigle, URI expert and consultant
Brian Green, Executive Director, Book Industry
Communication (BIC) and EDItEUR
Clifford Lynch, Executive Director, Coalition for
Networked Information (CNI)
