Electronic Resources Librarian
University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky Libraries seeks a creative, service-oriented
individual to serve as Electronic Resources Librarian, a full-time,
tenure-track position. The successful candidate, as a member of the Electronic
Resources / Support Team, will support automated systems within the University
Libraries and will be active in planning for the July 2000 move from NOTIS to
the Voyager system.
Available:
Review of applications to begin May 3, 1999. Position available July 1, 1999.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Team Leader for Electronic Resources, this new entry-level
position will assist the Team in planning for the migration to Voyager. Primary
duties will include analyzing and building the automated library system
profile, testing and troubleshooting the automated library system, creating and
maintaining library staff and student assistant user authorizations, and
supporting web client/server users. The successful candidate will participate
in the design and development of the Web interface for library catalogs and for
full-text and image databases.
The person in this position will have the opportunity to support team
responsibilities such as maintenance of some of the libraries' web pages,
including electronic reserves and the training and documentation pages for the
automated library system, and will participate in Electronic Resources Team
planning. This person will also serve on library committees, keep current with
trends in library automation and electronic resources, and take on projects as
appropriate.
Qualifications:
Required:
MLS from an ALA-accredited program; demonstration of effective communication
skills; ability to work in a complex and changing environment; experience with
or demonstrated skills in training others; knowledge of or experience with
Windows- based microcomputers and associated productivity applications, SGML,
HTML, OCLC and automated library systems.
Desired:
Experience or familiarity with NOTIS, UNIX, SiteSearch, Java or JavaScript,
Z39.50, EAD, DynaWeb, image manipulation programs, library reserves.
Salary: $28,500 minimum

Library:
The University of Kentucky Libraries consists of a main library and 12
branches. Combined holdings total more than 2.6 million volumes. The System has
a staff of 65 librarians and 121 support staff and serves a student body of
24,000. The Library is a member of ARL, SOLINET, the Center for Research
Libraries, and is a regional depository for federal documents. The new William
T. Young Library opened in April 1998.
