The flip side of that coin, of course, is that it's inexcusable for page
authors to put non-linked text into likely link colors (blue, purple) or
put linked text into likely text colors (black) without ensuring that
links are actually underlined.  Several iterations of the Microsoft web
site have been nearly unusable for me because they made links black on the
assumption that I would see them underlined.  Likewise, many sites play
with blue text on the assumption that underlines elsewhere will indicate
to me where the real links are.

That aside, if you're going to lock users out of program configurations,
it's probably best to leave the program pretty much at the default
settings.
