MARS Program at ALA - Technological Censorship?

Please join us at the MARS Program at ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans,
"Technological Censorship? How information technologies can both help and
hinder access to information."

(Even if you cannot be physically present at this meeting, we welcome your
participation - please see below.)

Panel presentations and moderated discussion,
Sunday June 27, 9:30am - noon,
Ernest M. Morial Convention Center, room 265-268.

The panel includes:
- Corey Hale, Project Censored (Sonoma State University, CA)
   on censorship in the publication process, and on collecting censored or
difficult-to-find materials;

- Ralph Ferragamo, Softline Information, Inc. (producers of Ethnic
NewsWatch,
GenderWatch, and Alt-HealthWatch)
   on using electronic media to collect and disseminate small, alternative,
and/or special interest news publications;

- Allan Bell, Ovid Technologies, Inc.
   on the economic considerations (for publishers and for libraries) of
producing electronic aggregate journal collections;

- Micaela Waldum, Serials and Acquisitions Librarian, Baruch College Library
(NYC)
   on the political aspects of subject cataloging, and implications for
access to information via electronically-accessible library catalogs;

- Vicki Nesting, Jefferson Parish Public Library (Louisiana) and TIFAP, The
Internet Filter Assessment Project
  on filtering and other methods of limiting access to information in
libraries.

Their presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session. We
