Same thing is happening in Minnesota, built on software
from OCLC - a single interface to search many libraries,
interfacing to the different OPACs via Z39.50.
When completed, the same OCLC software will also be
used for ILL.
Also, a user from one institution, which has contracted
for access to certain online databases or full text,
will be able to sit in ANY library, validate themselves
as legitimate patrons of their home institution, and
gain access to those online resources.
On the single-user level, EndNote (personal bibliographic
software similar to Procite) has a built in Z39.50
client. You can submit a single query in EndNote and
the query can be broadcast to a combination of libraries
you have designated.
