Word doc conversion solved

Well, the solution was very simple.  I upgraded to a newer version of 
Word, and the conversions were clean and easy.   (The two versions are 
both from the Office 97 package, but one was released over a year after 
the one I had been using, so that might explain it.)

Someone pointed out that underlining is considered poor form in HTML 
except when used for  hypertext links.  I am aware of that, but these are 
documents from other people and I'd prefer not to alter their content much 
(if at all) in converting them to HTML.
