oss4lib -- Open Source Systems for Libraries
oss4lib is a communications outpost for those of us working on open source
systems in, around, for, and about libraries. Its mission: To cultivate
the collaborative power of open source software engineering to build
better and free systems for use in libraries.
There are two pieces to oss4lib -- the website, at:
www.med.yale.edu/library/oss4lib
...and the listserv, oss4lib-list at biomed.med.yale.edu (instructions for
subscribing to which are available at the site above). It is our
intention to make oss4lib (the site) a gathering point for project news
and summaries, a vehicle for communications between software authors and
users, and a repository of information about freely available systems for
libraries. The listserv will facilitate announcements as well as
ongoing discussion.
The site - and its purpose - have been (and will continue to be) heavily
influenced by slashdot.org and freshmeat.net, two phenomenal sites which
serve the broader open source software community.
Stop by and have a look.
