The Early-Bird deadline for the following OCLC Institute events is
approaching:
"Using Metadata for Knowledge Management," June 14-16, 1999, Dallas, TX.
The Early-Bird deadline for this seminar, offered in conjunction with
AMIGOS, is Friday, April 30, 1999.
This intensive, hands-on 2.5 day seminar offers participants the following:
* Understanding of the concept of Knowledge Management and the key
opportunities for libraries
* Understanding of the foundations of resource description and its
application to the Internet
* Understanding of emerging Web standards such as XML, RDF, and the
Dublin Core and their application in resource description systems
* The opportunity to evaluate your information management needs and
determine the appropriateness of metadata for a variety of applications
* Use of the Dublin Core metadata in a real-world application

"Knowledge Access Management," June 16-18, 1999, Indianapolis, IN. The
Early-Bird deadline for this seminar, offered in conjunction with INCOLSA,
is Monday, May 3, 1999.
This 2.5 day seminar is specially designed for cataloging leaders. It
includes the following topics:
* A comprehensive and practical understanding of cataloging Internet
resource.
* The opportunity to explore cataloging complements and alternatives:
TEI headers, EAD, metadata, and Web pages.
* Understanding of the underlying concepts of these approaches and
their implementation.
