Lehigh University seeks a  Sr. Specialist in Library Systems.  The
individual will administer and support a Unix-based library management
system (Sirsi Unicorn); plan for and assist in the integration of
software features and functionality within the broad campus information
systems environment; customize software to support institutional
priorities; and explore and implement new systems and services to meet
the evolving needs of the Lehigh community. The job requires a flexible,
learning-oriented individual who is both self-motivated and capable of
working well with other professionals in a collaborative,
project-focused environment.  Strong verbal and written communications
skills are a must.

The Library Systems position is situated within an innovative
Information Resources organization that brings together library,
computing, networking, and telecommunications support functions.  This
organizational setting is fast-paced to meet the demands of a rapidly
evolving technological environment, but it is also informed by a
heritage of library and user support services and programs that are tied
to the learning and research mission of the university.  

Requisite background for the position includes:  a Bachelors degree,
with significant education in Computer Science or a related area; an
awareness of technology issues and problems in a library environment,
with two-to-three years of experience in an academic library setting
preferred; familiarity with the Unix operating system and Unix shell
scripting; a basic knowledge of programming and systems analysis
concepts and techniques; experience in database management; familiarity
with Windows95/98 and NT desktop environments; a basic knowledge of
networking, the Internet and the World-Wide Web; familiarity with HTML,
Web authoring tools, and Web scripting.  

Lehigh University, founded in 1865, is a private institution in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,  located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 90
miles southwest of New York City. As a national undergraduate
university, Lehigh ranked 36th in the 1998 U.S. News and World Report
survey.  Lehigh enrolls approximately 4500 undergraduate and 1800
graduate students. One merged organization called Information Resources
(IR) delivers communications, computing, library, and media services to
the Lehigh campus community. Two major facilities, the
Fairchild-Martindale Library and the Linderman Library, house the
university collection of more than 1.1 million volumes, 500,00
government documents, and 7,000 serial titles.  A dynamic "virtual

Lehigh's traditional library environment.
