DIRECTOR, KNOWLEDGE ACCESS MANAGEMENT 

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is looking for an individual who will
provide leadership, management, and direction to the Libraries' newly
created Knowledge Access Management (KAM) Division. The division is
composed of three sections (Systems, Cataloging, and Web Development) and
includes eight faculty and ten classified employees.  This position is
offered at the rank of associate professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The KAM Director will be responsible for all aspects of
the Libraries' information technology infrastructure, including the
overall development, growth, and maintenance of hardware and applications
software, the online catalog, Web environments, and digital projects. The
director will initiate, develop and assist with grant proposals, and
assume a leadership role in general planning, budgeting, and communicating
in regard to information systems and technology. The KAM director will
represent the Libraries on campus and statewide technology issues, report
to the Dean of Libraries, and serve on the Dean's cabinet. Professional
growth and service in keeping with university standards for promotion and
tenure is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA accredited MLS or international equivalent
with five years post-MLS administrative experience in an academic or
research library; broad knowledge of and experience with library automated
systems and library technical services functions including cataloging or
database maintenance; proven planning and organizational skills; excellent
written and oral communications skills; ability to work effectively with
colleagues through a participatory management style; knowledge of emerging
library technologies; commitment to staff training and development. 

Preferred:  Experience with Innovative Interfaces library systems and
OCLC; practical knowledge of MARC format, AACR2, LC classification and
subject headings, LANs, workstations, CD-ROM networks, HTML, Web design,
and tools for creating, organizing, and maintaining Web sites; familiarity
with Internet and digital cataloging issues and digital technologies;
experience with grant writing and budgeting.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:  This is a tenure-track position. Salary is
competitive and commensurate with experience and background; faculty
status, attractive benefits package, including 24 days annual leave,

THE SETTING:  UNLV is Nevada's largest comprehensive,
doctoral-degree-granting institution with 21,000 students and more than
700 full-time faculty. The UNLV libraries are comprised of the main James
R. Dickinson Library, the Curriculum Materials Library, the Architecture
Studies Library, and a soon-to-be constructed Music Library.
Construction on a new main library, the Lied Library, began in early 1998.
This 300,000 square foot, $51 million facility will include an Information
Commons and a fully wired four-classroom Collaborative Learning Center.
These and other currently advertised library faculty positions are the
result of retirements, new positions assigned, and organizational
restructuring driven by the need to provide dynamic leadership for
expanded library collections and services in the Lied Library in the 21st
