Assistant Systems/Reference Librarian
Mary Washington College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Systems/Reference Librarian. This position reports to the Head of Systems and works as a member of the Reference team; implements and maintains a Novell 4.11 server with CD-ROM databases; works with the library community on systems-related projects and troubleshoots public workstations; assists Head of Systems with VTLS/UNIX; maintains a Web-based online tutorial for Freshman English students on a Windows NT server; serves as Webmaster for the Library?s home page; responsible for some classroom instruction on the use and manipulation of automated resources; and provides some reference desk coverage to students and faculty at a busy information desk, including occasional weekend coverage.
Required qualifications: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program. Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with a client/server integrated library system; experience providing technical support (hardware and software) in a PC environment; in-depth knowledge of Windows95/NT; proven Web-site management skills, including HTML editing, CGI script writing, and PERL5; good understanding of impact of technology on academic library public service and collection development functions. Demonstrated ability to work in environment requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications: Previous experience working with the public in an academic library environment; experience working with Novell 4.11, VTLS, UNIX, and JAVA script.
