POSITION: DIRECTOR OF LEARNING RESOURCES
DEPARTMENT: LIBRARY
Job Announcement #4001

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the operations of library/learning resources centers 
district-wide.  Develop and recommend an annual budget for the support of
learning resources. Submit regular reports detailing the function of the learning
resources division. Recruit and develop a staff of well-qualified service
oriented professional and paraprofessional individuals. Evaluate all
library and learning resources staff. Organize and guide staff as they
work with faculty and students to provide an optimum environment for 
learning. Periodically review all existing and proposed College instructional
programs to assess needs for learning resources and services. Guide
learning resources staff and work with faculty and administration to plan,
develop, maintain, and evaluate learning resources and services to meet
instructional needs and promote fulfillment of the mission and goals of
South Texas Community College. In conjunction with the College
Institutional Effectiveness Program, develop an annual plan for
improvement of the learning resources program. Serve as a consultant in
instructional services and technologies to the College. Create a
managerial climate that fosters collegial collaboration among staff and
encourages risk-taking and innovation. Act as liaison with the community
in matters relating to library and instructional media services. Act as
advocate for the library and learning resources program with the
administration, faculty, staff, and students. Be active in the
library/learning resources profession on behalf of the College, attending
professional meetings as possible. Performs other related duties as
assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution. 
Min. 2 yrs recent post-MLS professional experience in an academic library. 
High degree of computer literacy. 
Experience with the management of a wide-area library automation systems. 
Strong familiarity with audiovisual equipment and materials. 
Knowledge of and experience with library/lrc service components including
circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, and bibliographic instruction. 
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with
STCC colleagues and the general public. 
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of instructional design. 
Experience conducting technology-related workshops for educators in an
educational or business environment. 
Experience in the creation and design of World-Wide-Web pages, multi-media
presentations, and other electronic resources. 
Ability to design and maintain library related information systems 

CLOSING DATE: Open until filled. Screening to begin September 14, 1998.

SALARY: $47,000/year minimum.

STARTING DATE: As soon as can be arranged.
