HEAD, LIBRARY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT LITTLE ROCK
OTTENHEIMER LIBRARY

UALR invites applications for the position of  Head, Library Information
Technology, a faculty appointment with rank, leading to tenure.  The
successful candidate must demonstrate a skill in both automated library
systems and instruction.  Also necessary will be a knowledge of print as
well as electronic resources, plus a strong commitment to patron
services for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and
administrators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Responsibilities include but not limited to: manage,
supervise, coordinate, plan, implement, and service the library's
various information systems operations including the integrated library
system (DRA); assigned teaching functions within the library's
information literacy program; prepare the library for an upgraded
automation system or movement to a completely new system; develop
Internet, network and WEB based applications; performs upgrades;
coordinates release documentation and manages implementation of new
features; consults with library staff on procurement of new computer
products and services; coordinates hardware and software support for
library's microcomputers and peripherals; serves as library's liaison to
campus computing services.
  
REQUIREMENTS:	ALA- accredited MLS degree; demonstrated management
experience with integrated computer systems and networking; documented
evidence of successful management of computer systems projects;
knowledge of local area networks, CD-ROM LANs, MARC and OCLC record
structures, and WEB design and support skills, excellent oral, written
and interpersonal skill.

Preferred:	3-5 experience with DRA and/or Innovative Interfaces systems

Salary: $37,500 for 12-month appointment with TIAA/CREF, standard life
and dental insurance.  Position available immediately.  Review of

ENVIRONMENT:	UALR services a student population of over 10,000, with a
faculty of 400.  The institution offers degrees at the Associate level
through the PhD.  The Ottenheimer Library's budget is over $2.2 million,
with holdings of 360,000 volumes, and subscriptions to 2,500 serials
titles.  The DRA integrated library system became operable in October,
1994.  Total staff includes 38 full-time employees.  Little Rock, the
capital city and cultural center with a population of over 600,000, is
centrally located in the foothills of the Ozark mountains.
