I agree with this approach.  You'll  probably wear out the jack on 
the monitor so this would still be a good idea even if you get the 
ViewSonic.  I've had to replace one before and they are a pain to get 
to!
I personally suggest that you get some good, heavy duty headphones 
that are able to be washed with a good disinfectant.  They can be 
very expensive, so shop around.
