Associate University Librarian
for
Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences
Cornell University Library

The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Engineering, Mathematics, and
Physical Sciences will report directly to the University Librarian and will
serve on the Library Management Team that shares broadly the
responsibility for formulating and recommending policy for the Library.

The AUL for Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences will administer
the Engineering Library; the Mathematics Library; and the Physical Sciences
Library. The three component libraries, which have a tradition of
cooperation, are being combined into a single administrative unit in 1998.
The AUL for Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences , who will hold
an endowed appointment, will coordinate the work of 20 staff, manage
collections of over 310,000 volumes, and administer a budget of over
$2,000,000.

The goal of the aggregation of the three separate libraries into a single
administrative unit is to increase the Library's ability to identify best
practices and expedite their dissemination throughout the library system;
to create a stronger voice for the science libraries on the University
Library's Management Team; to foster the consistent formulation and
application of information policies to improve service; to stimulate

interdisciplinary resources and their use by scientists and others
