web pages as handouts

We are interested in using our bibliographies and user guides on the web
as handouts (currently we edit each document twice once for the web once
for a handout) If we just print our the web pages, they look ok except
for the page breaks not always at the best place -- we would like to
just create these items once (as an html page) and simply print those
as our handouts. (I have tried exporting or saving word processing
documents into html, but then it seems I do so much editing of the
result it would have been easier to create the html version from plain
text so I still end up editing it twice) The basic question is if there
is an html trick to force page breaks or some other solutions to get web
pages to print out as nice looking handouts.
thanks,
