Manual Proxies and Netscape Communicator (fwd)

Here are a couple of ways:

1. In Netscape under Proxie setting,

- Select Manual Proxie (then click on View next to this option)
- At the bottom of this screen you see the following:
You may provide a list of domains that Netscape should access
directly...
- This serves as your 'inclusion list'. Put in your domains here,
separated by commas. I don't think there is a limit with communicator on
the number that can go in, but I believe there is a limit with netscape
3.0 but not sure what it is
4. You can also fill in the http:/proxie line of this screen with an
intuitive message as this will appear when someone attempts to go to a
site not in the inclusion list.

2. There is another way to do this on windows 95 & TCP/IP(not sure if it
works on nt)
- In the windows settings
SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/NETWORK/TCP/IP/PROPERTIES/DNS CONFIGURATION
 Turn off the dns server
- in the c:\windows file copy the file hosts.sam to a file called hosts
- at the bottom of this file, put in your domains that you would like to
put in your 'inclusion list' ( I think they have to each be on a separate
line with the name AND IP ( there is a sample already in the file, just
copy the format from that)

The advantage of this way is that you can copy a host file to each
machine. We went looking for the file that contains the proxy list but
couldn't find it. (Maybe someone out there knows where it is?) The
disadvantage is you do not get an intuitive message.

Hope this helps,

Su
