DIGITIZATION PROJECT COORDINATOR
The Digitization Project Coordinator will lead a project to establish
agreements in the library and museum communities for technical and policy
aspects of a coordinated effort in the area of digitization. The
Coordinator will apply these agreements in pilot projects, and will seek
funds to expand the digitization effort.
DUTIES:
* Work with an advisory committee to draft a long range digitization plan
for Colorado to include:
* Purpose of the digital library;
* Roles of different libraries and museums;
* Identification of materials already digitized;
* Criteria to be used in identifying additional resources to digitize;
* Recommendations for hardware and software to be used;
* Standards for retrieving, indexing, and displaying resources;
* Process for assisting libraries, museums, and other organizations to
digitize;
* Budget and potential funding sources to continue the project.
* Work to obtain an agreement on the long range plan;
* Work with three high schools to apply criteria and select resources for
immediate digitization.
* Apply for grants to implement the long-range plan, in Spring, 1999, from
federal agencies and private foundations and corporations.
* Oversee the development of content for a Web site.
* Maintain contact with other digitization projects in the U.S. and the
world.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Familiarity and experience with digitization, particularly with
information access methods for museums and libraries; ability to
facilitate group interactions and build group consensus; the organization
and management skills to coordinate a multi-institutional, multi-faceted
project; be able to communicate orally and in writing; experience and
success in grant writing and fund raising.
Salary Range: $40,000; or a lower salary with a benefits package can be
negotiated.
Status: One-year contract, temporary position.
