UNIVERSITY WEBMASTER
The University Webmaster is responsible for maintaining the structure and
content of web pages residing on the university's central web server.
Reports organizationally to the University Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and implements enhancements to ensure that the web
pages are current, rich in accurate content, graphically pleasing, and
responsive to the information needs of the university community.
Maintains the organizational file structure on the central web server.
Assists other information providers in developing web pages to be located
on or linked to the central server. Develops training and outreach
activities to encourage and support the development of the university web.
Works collaboratively with Computing Services staff, graphics design staff,
other campus webmasters, and the Campus-Wide Information System (CWIS)
working group and oversight committee. Recommends and assists in enforcing
guidelines, policies, and procedures related to the university web.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor's degree and experience related to web
page development. Must be Internet literate and have a working knowledge
of World Wide Web concepts, practices, and web design principles.
Experience with HTML programming, authoring tools, and different graphical
web browsers. Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work
independently and collaboratively with individuals and in groups with
varying skill levels. Strong oral, written communication, presentation,
and teaching skills. Flexible and team oriented. Willing to subordinate
own image of web design to those of constituents. Able to experiment with
and assess emerging trends and technology. Excellent analytical and
problem-solving skills. Preferred: ALA-accredited Master's of Library
Science. Knowledge of CGI scripting, VMS directory structure, Java,
Javascript, and Active-X. Awareness of Internet protocols and site
management tools. Project management experience. Knowledge of copyright
and privacy issues related to web page development. Knowledge of
university administrative structure, policies, academic programs, resources
and cultural environment, especially that of SWT.
SALARY & BENEFITS: $2,727+ monthly commensurate with experience. Benefits
include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and
choice of retirement program. No state or local income taxes.
