CDROM via Web-based Interface usingJava, C++, etc.,

Any ideas for problem?

Working on a web-based interface for a new cdrom (using a map to select data 
by station).

Run into a roadblock in trying to read/write files using a web page (ie, 
html) and Java as the main 'driver'.

Anyone have any info or tips related to this, using Java, C++, etc,
