30 th Annual Conference
Corporation of Professional Librarians of Quebec

Montreal, Quebec
Canada
May 27-29, 1999

CALL FOR PAPERS

THEME :	The Librarian Amidst
		Information Professionals

Are information professionals
self-sufficient and territorial, or do they
form part of a large and diverse family of
professionals? Are information professionals
evolving in parallel lines or in completely
different directions? Is there a common
denominator or a common base among them
insofar as it affects their training, their
skills and mastery, their markets, or are
there clear parameters and is there
competition for target markets? If so,
will this lead to inevitable territorial wars?

The theme of the conference aims to
highlight the various skills and the
diversity of tasks of librarians at a time
when there is a proliferation of information
professionals in many walks of life. The
object of the conference is to acknowledge
the skills of the many practitioners in the
information profession whose common
denominator is information, and to stress
the need to share proficiencies among those
partners in the field. The time may be
ripe for some converging and harmonization
of training and of expertise of the
"knowledge" professionals.
