Print Dialog Box on Gates PCs

Hi all,
We are looking for a printing solution for the computers we received 
from the Gates Library Foundation. These computers have variety of 
Microsoft products installed (IE, Word, Excel, etc..) under WindowsNT. 
Whenever a patron uses the printer icon from the toolbar to print, no 
dialog box appears. This results in patrons pressing print several times 
which causes a tremendous amount of unpaid for/ unpicked up printouts. 
The print dialog box does appear when patrons use Print from the File 
pull down menus.  Is this something that can be fixed in the registry?  
Is it a feature unique to Microsoft products only?  I noticed on my own 
computer other applications such as Netscape and Word Perfect don't 
print from the icon without a popup box. Any information/hints/lessons 
would be greatly appreciated.
