Web-based Library of Music

This posting will be of interest to those librarians who have an interest in
music.  The web has brought online many music websites/resources, but
finding these resources is always a challenge.

The following site is an innovative undertaking that hopes to become not
only a library of music information, but will eventually represent a
historical record of music history on the web, and, long term plans are to
become a "meta" record label for the many indepedent record labels in the world.

A Search Engine For Information About Music.

The homepage at http://www.worldrecords.com is dynamically generated so that
keeping up-to-date on new music sites added to the database is reduced to
visiting the homepage a few times a week (where the new registrations are
displayed).

While maintaining the links in this database is one of the key challenges,
this site has recently implemented an email reminder program which should
decrease the number of broken links by reminding music website owners to
update their links (i.e. when they move to different server, change email
address, etc.).

Unique in artist and repetoire services, Worldwide Recordings Limited is
using an innovative approach that partners with the independent labels
instead of "owning" the artist.  This has proven to be a powerful selling
point with independent artists because while they might like to get "signed"
by a major record label, they also fear and are unwilling to give up
artistic control of producing their music.  World Records Ltd. has overcome
this barrier by taking the approach that the artist maintains control of
production and uses their non-exclusive relationship with World Records Ltd.
to promote and distribute their record/CD. 

In addition, Worldwide Recordings Limited has added the production of
compilation CDs of independent artists from around the world.  These
compilation CDs will be used to promote those artists listed on them (34 in
total - 2 Volumes) to agents, other record labels, etc, but more importantly
mean that future music historians will be able to review the independent
music of a given time period simply by ordering these compilation CDs.

This site has more: a music news server, mailing list, free classified
advertising, music discussion groups, chat rooms - all intended to keep the
interest of people interested in music, artists, etc.

While it is intended to be a self-funding commercial site, it's radical use
of the web to empower the independent artist on the shoulders of "a company"
is worthy of recognition and anyone wishing to help promote the site is
