MARC software

Greetings,

I am looking for public domain software or utilities, preferably for
unix, that can read MARC files, and ideally provide indexing of selected
tags and/or subfields. I know of commercial software that can provide this,
but would like to find free software if possible. As an alternative,
and utilities that allow manipulation of MARC files and possible translation
to tagged output would also be useful.
