Catalogue entries for online databases

How are libraries providing links to their online databases through their
catalogues?

When we had CD-ROM databases we would catalogue them with a location to ask
at the information desk.

Now that we have online access to databases through the Web do we
necessarily need a record in the catalogue to alert the readers to their
existence or do we have a separate list of electronic resources on our web
pages.
