The thing that I find monotonous about these filtering discussions is that
they always center on pornography. As if that was the worst thing that we,
or the more vocal parents, have to worry about! Is there anyone out there
who targets their filtering activities at blocking religious sites? Most of
those will do far more to "mess up kids heads" than pictures of naked
people doing what naked people have been doing for millennia. Naked people
are NOT a threat to American Civilization, but mindless religion IS!
I work closely with small-town libraries here, and have seen innumerable
instances of people wanting to ban erotica (not pornography), Native
American spirituality, or ancient religions, but demand that the library
carry all manner of cheesey, shallow, badly written religious trash. Where
did this screwey bias come from, and what are you all doing to counteract
it?
