I continue to recommend Epson LX-300s for all such
applications. They are impact printers, but are VERY quiet.
We buy them for about $170 each, usually a few dollars less.
Fourteen more arrived last week and will gradually be
installed at some new workstations and to replace some old
printers of some other model. We have one on each opac
terminal, on twenty CDROM stations, and elsewhere.

One of the great blessings of these is that they are VERY
simple to operate (no messing with online and offline buttons,
which confuses most patrons), simple to put paper in, and
use standard, inexpensive cartridge ribbons that drop in.
Since our fine reference folks run the ribbons until you can
barely read anything, we REALLY save on supplies. o-) Of
course ANY printer will save money on supplies compared to
an inkjet printer.

cheers
