                       EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 
                 The Center for Library and Information Resources (CLAIR)
                                                 

          The Center for Library and Information Resources(CLAIR) at the
Asian Institute
          of Technology in Bangkok encompasses the Institutes Library and four
          Information Centers catering primarily to the needs of the AIT
community, but
          also to a wider information seeking public in Bangkok and beyond.
The Center
          was the first to offer automated library services in Thailand and
continues to
          maintain an information services leadership role in Southeast
Asia. The 400 acre
          campus is located about 40 km. north of Bangkok  

          AIT invites applications and nominations for the position of
Executive Director of
          CLAIR. The Institute seeks an innovative individual who has the
vision to lead
          the Center in its academic support for both teaching and research
at the
          Institute, and outreach and training programs in support of the
Institutes Mission
          of "taking a leadership role in the promotion of technological
change and its
          management for sustainable development in the Asia and Pacific Region,
          through high-level education, research and outreach activities which
          integrate technology, planning and management.  

          AIT is an autonomous, international, post-graduate Institute
supporting over
          three dozen masters degree programs and numerous doctoral
programs. The
          twelve hundred plus graduate students come from forty countries
and are
          taught and supported by 200 faculty and staff from almost as many
countries
          throughout the world. The medium of communication is English.  

          CLAIRs staff consists of information specialists, librarians, and
support staff who
          work closely with their various constituencies in providing
value-added
          information services. The Executive Director reports to the Vice
President for
          Academic Affairs and serves on the Institute Senate, the policy
making body of
          the Institute. The Executive Director is responsible for
management, planning
          and budgeting.  

          Superior organizational skills and administrative experience are
required. The
          candidate should have a demonstrated record of research and
publication
          and professional activities appropriate to faculty rank.
Candidates should
          have a substantive record of successful, progressively responsible
          administrative and fiscal experience in a library/information
center. Experience
          with integrated library systems and networked information
technologies are
          expected. Excellent communication skills both oral and written are
paramount.
          A Ph.D. degree is required . A Masters degree in library and
information
          science or equivalent is also required. Salary and quarters
allowance is based
          upon qualifications and experience.  

          A masters degree program in Information Management is offered by the
          Institute. The successful candidate for the position will be
expected to teach in
          that program and advise students, as well as serve on thesis
committees. The
          faculty appointment is in the School of Advanced Technologies.  

          Review of applications and nominations will begin on January 15,
1997 and will
          continue until the position has been filled. The successful
candidate is
          expected to assume office August 1, 1997. The applicant should
