Closing the filtering debate?

I am a public librarian (now); ex school librarian. The two roles are very
different. Schools must protect because they are acting in place of the
parent. In the public library only the parent can act as the protector for
their own child. Each parent will have differing ideas as to what should be
filtered for their own off-spring. Our policy states that the child (any
minor under 18) using the internet must have their parent with them or they
have signed a release that says that they realize that our internets are
not filtered. Public education is extremely important as has already been
stated.
